Best time to go

Buenos Aires is a year-round destination, but you'll find the warmest temperatures between November and March and high summer in January; perfect if you're in search of winter sun.

Things to do

Buenos Aires has got all the culture and sightseeing you'd expect from a capital city, with its own unique twist. It's impossible to ignore the unique sound of tango music - and no trip to BA would be complete without a visit to a milonga (tango hall.) If the infectious atmosphere really sweeps you up, book yourself a lesson and learn for yourself. Visit the city's many museums and art galleries, including the Eva Perón Museum. Chill out in colonial parks and gardens or head off the beaten track and discover BA's burgeoning creative scene. Head to Palermo Vieja for cool boutiques, or go to San Telmo market to buy antiques and vintage finds. From its captivating history to hip new neighbourhoods, Buenos Aires is packed with plenty to see and do.

Food and drink

Argentinean steaks have to be tasted to be believed. Meat features heavily in the national cuisine; you'll also find chorizo, lamb and lots more on most menus. As well as local restaurants, there is a good choice of international eateries and cafes. Don't miss the delicious dulche de leche caramel milk. And of course, those wines...

In the evening

BA's nightlife scene is phenomenal. Choose glossy cocktail bars, late late clubs, atmospheric tango halls or bohemian bars. There really is an after dark haunt for everyone in Buenos Aires.

Health and entry requirements

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct travel insurance and vaccinations and / or special medication for your destination. Please consult your GP for advice at least one month ahead of travel. It is essential that you meet the visa and passport requirements for your chosen destination. Visit the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (http://www.fco.gov.uk) website for up to date entry requirements listed by country.
