Best time to go

Mauritius' tropical climate means it's warm all year round, but the best time to visit is between May and November.

Things to do

The main reason why most visitors come to Mauritius is to totally chill out, but this is an exciting island with lots to discover. As well as world class golf courses, you'll find impressive sports facilities in most hotels. The gorgeous, tropical coastline means an array of water sports to choose from – as well as some of the best dive sites in the world. On dry land, island capital St Louis boasts duty free shops and the local market gives you the chance to buy sumptuous silks, colourful crafts and beautiful jewellery. The Pamplemousses Botanic Gardens are world famous for having some of the most spectacular vegetation you're ever likely to see and the Leisure Village Water Park on the east coast is packed with slides and chutes. Don't miss the giant tortoises, steamy waterfalls and jungle-covered mountains. Mauritius is wonderfully compact, so all of this is within easy reach – no matter where you stay.

Food and drink

Mauritius is home to abundant cultures and cuisines – so you'll have the chance to eat everything from gourmet French dishes to delicious Indian curries. Most of the hotels here are ultra luxurious, meaning top notch food and service to match.

In the evening

Mauritius holidays are mainly about relaxation, meaning many guests prefer to spend their evenings unwinding by the sea, or enjoying hotel-based entertainment. Still, if you're looking for after hours bars and dancing, there's a lively scene in Grand Baie.

Health and entry requirements

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct travel insurance and vaccinations and / or special medication for your destination. Please consult your GP for advice at least one month ahead of travel. It is essential that you meet the visa and passport requirements for your chosen destination. Visit the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (http://www.fco.gov.uk) website for up to date entry requirements listed by country.
