This eleven-night American Rockies Self Drive includes return flights from the UK to Denver and car hire plus eleven nights hotel accommodation - comprising one night in Denver, one night in Cheyenne, one night in Rapid City, one night in Sheridan, one night in Cody, three nights in Yellowstone, two nights in Jackson, and one night in Salt Lake City.

You'll spend the first night in Denver. Famous for its Old West era feel and 19th-century landmarks, Denver boasts Larimer Square, the beauty of Wander Denver Botanic Gardens, and fascinating Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The next night is spent in Cheyenne; here take in Wyoming State Capitol Building and visit the insightful Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum.

Drive onwards to Rapid City where you'll stay for another night. Rapid City has so much to see and do, including the iconic gateway to Mount Rushmore and the incredible Black Hills National Forest. Enjoy another one-night stay in Sheridan to check out Kendrick Park and Tongue Ranger District before moving on to Cheyenne for another night; call by Buffalo Bill Center or take a Cody Trolley Tour.

Enjoy three nights in Yellowstone and take time to appreciate its dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs, and gushing geysers before you make your way to Jackson for two nights. Day 1 - UK - Denver (Hampton Inn Denver Airport) - Bed & Breakfast

Your American Rockies Self Drive adventure starts with your flight from the UK to Denver. Pick up your hire car at the airport and transfer to Hampton Inn Denver Airport for a one-night stay.

The capital of Colorado, Denver is America's metropolis that dates back to the Old West era. You'll find a wealth of 19th-century buildings and landmarks in the city's oldest block Larimer Square. Wander Denver Botanic Gardens and allow the magnificent visit to showcase many stunning native and international plants or Denver Art Museum is a worthwhile look for an insight into Western and regional art. Engage in gripping shows, shops, and mix with a range of beautiful animals at Denver Zoo.

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a great spot set in a mountain park; here you can appreciate celebrated music artists. Take an outdoor adventure to Rocky Mountain National Park to uncover a plethora of natural gems or enjoy a day trip to Denver's largest park Genesee Park, also known as the "shining valley” to marvel at spectacular vistas and snow-capped peaks in the distance. Mount Evans Scenic Byway will lead you to reach the high summit of Mount Evans which is the highest paved road in North America and ideal for walking enthusiasts.


Day 2 - Denver - Cheyenne (Hampton Inn Cheyenne) - Bed & Breakfast

Next make your way from Denver to Cheyenne and check in to Hampton Inn Cheyenne and enjoy a night's stay. Cheyenne is Wyoming’s capital city and has a host of exciting discoveries; while in the area take the chance to spend time at Cheyenne Depot Museum to marvel at history from all ages. Have your camera at the ready for pictures of Wyoming State Capitol Building and see where Wyoming's first families lived at Wyoming Historic Governor’s Mansion. Hop on Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley to make your way around the city with ease.

Make your way through Cheyenne Botanic Gardens fora peaceful stroll as you take in rose gardens, and perennial gardens, as well as fascinating sculptures and fountains. Perhaps ride horses at Terry Bison Ranch and experience guided trails through the south of the city. If you're feeling hungry grab a bite to eat at a farmer's market and enjoy the locally-made products. Get a flavour for Cheyenne's Frontier Days with the rich collection of western artefacts and exhibits at Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum.


Day 3 - Cheyenne - Rapid City (Fairfield Inn & Suites Rapid City) - Bed & Breakfast

The third stop on your trip is Rapid City, where you will check in for a one-night stay at Fairfield Inn & Suites Rapid City. In western South Dakota, Rapid City lies east Black Hills National Forest and iconic as a gateway to Mount Rushmore; be sure to capture many photos of those famous memorial. Custer State Park is a great visit if you can't resist scenic views and fabulous walking trails to take in nature, flora, and fauna. Badlands National Park is perfect for advanced hikers who enjoy exploring and like to take in natural rock formations.

Take part in a day's excursion to Black Hills National Forest where the nearby spiky Cathedral Spires rocks and Black Elk Peak overlook the granite cliffs of the Black Elf Wilderness. For something to suit all the family check out Saticoy Indoor Waterpark Resort to slide down exhilarating waterslides and play arcade games. The Norwegian-style wooden church Chapel in the Hills is also a must-see to take in its wooden boards and quaint steep gables. South Dakota Air and Space Museum is a fascinating visit for the chance to marvel at aircraft displays and artefacts.


Day 4 - Rapid City - Sheridan (Comfort Inn & Suites) - Bed & Breakfast

Carry on your travels to reach Comfort Inn & Suites in Sheridan to stay for one night. Sheridan is nestled halfway between Yellowstone Park and Mount Rushmore and boasts many exciting things to do and see. Kendrick Park is a great location for a stroll through pretty woodland to discover the resident buffalo and elk while the kids make new friends in the playground or Tongue Ranger District is the ideal place to camp out in the wilderness and join a range of exciting outdoor activities.

Enjoy a seasonal tour of Trail End State Historic Site; a Flemish revival mansion with many awe-inspiring preserved artefacts. Emerson Park is the ideal visit to take a walk along the lake or have a picnic with the family. Attend a breathtaking show at the Historic WYO Theater - a venue that was famous for a variety of entertainment in the 1920s. The national historic landmark The Sheridan Inn is well worth your time to appreciate its distinctive gabled architecture, wide porches, and interior woodwork.


Day 5 - Sheridan - Cody (The Cody Hotel) - Bed & Breakfast

The Cody Hotel in northwest Wyoming's city of Cody is next on your itinerary for a one-night stay. Trace William F Cody's life with a range of gripping multimedia displays or Draper Natural History Museum is great for interesting wildlife exhibits. Enjoy a day out at Buffalo Bill Center of the West; dedicated to Buffalo Bill check out its firearms and natural history. Ghost town relics recreate the frontier west in Old Trail Town or join in with a variety of events at Cody Night Rodeo with bulls, broncos, and cowboys.

Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park are both easily accessible from your location here in Cody, so be sure to find your tranquil spot to take in the wildlife or perhaps raft or swim among the picturesque valleys and mountains. Explore Cody to its full potential with a Cody Trolley Tour to discover many historic and public art. Stop for the chance to fish at Beck Lake or pay respect to the veterans and call by State of Wyoming Veterans Memorial Park.


Day 6-8 - Cody - Yellowstone (Explorer Cabins at Yellowstone) - Room Only

Spend your next three nights uncovering the sheer beauty of Yellowstone National Park and its 3,500-square-mile wilderness at the top of a volcanic hotspot. As well as the park spreading itself mostly over Wyoming, it also covers parts of Montana and Idaho too. Take time to capture photos of its dramatic canyons, alpine rivers, lush forests, hot springs, and gushing geysers. A must during your time at the park is to explore the thermal basins including Mammoth Hot Springs, Norris Geyser Basin, and Fountain Paint Pot.

One of the top things to do is watch the wildlife of Yellowstone and Lamar Valley is the best places to watch bison and many other mesmerising animals, yet this can sometimes be overlooked as it is a longer drive than other parts of the park. If you set aside enough time there's the opportunity to drive through the valley to reach the Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone, where an African-looking savanna leads the way to some of the most splendid mountainous landscapes.


Day 9-10 - Yellowstone - Jackson (Rustic Inn Creekside Resort & Spa) - Bed & Breakfast

Head onwards to Jackson and check in to Rustic Inn Creekside Resort & Spa and enjoy two nights here. Set amongst Wyoming's Jackson Hole valley, Jackson is home to three ski areas; Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Snow King Mountain Resort, and Grand Targhee Resort. Grand Teton National Park Foundation is perfect for a day of adventure and a range of outdoor recreational activities. Marvel at the towering Grand Teton and the glistening Jenny Lake, as well as the historic settlements including Mormon Row and Menors Ferry.


Day 11 - Jackson - Salt Lake City (Crystal Inn Hotel & Suites) - Bed & Breakfast

Salt Lake City is the final visit on your self-drive adventure. You will check in for a one-night stay at Crystal Inn Hotel & Suites. Uncover the beauty of this city at leisure; the beautifully landscaped Temple Square is great for walking or pass Utah State Capitol Building to take pictures for your photo album. Red Butte Garden is the ideal setting for a peaceful stroll to take in lush greenery and also join in with exciting workshops. Day 12 - Salt Lake City - UK
