Holidays to Hua Hin are perfect for relaxing after a stay in bustling Bangkok. This sophisticated resort has been the summer residence of the Thai royal family since the 1920s – and it shows. Luxury hotels, pampering spas and world class golf courses are just some of the main draws here. You’ll also find mystical temples, miles of sandy beaches and a superb choice of water sports. There’s plenty of natural beauty in the surrounding area; take an eco cruise, visit cascading waterfalls and see troops of mischievous monkeys. Experience Thai culture with a trip to the market, or take a cookery class. Switch off by a relaxing pool at one of our hand-picked hotels, or head to the famous beaches for totally tropical downtime. All this is on the scenic Siam Gulf, around three and a half hours away from Bangkok by car.
Many people take holidays to Hua Hin in the “cool season,” from November to February. (Although temperatures still reach the mid twenties at this time of year, so it’s hardly chilly.) If you like it hot, the temperature gauge hits the late thirties from March to May. High summer is best avoided because of heavy rain.
One of the main attractions on Hua Hin holidays are the golf courses. There are no less than seven courses within a 20 minute drive of the resort. Thanks to the clear coastline, water sports are big news here, with fishing, parasailing, kayaking and scuba diving just some of the options on offer. For some retail therapy, try the Grand Market and Hua Hin Bazaar. Cookery classes, eco cruises and a elephant camps all give an interesting insight into the Thai way of life. Must-see sights include the beautiful Maruekathaiyawan Palace, Wat Kao Lad (Monkey Temple) and Khao Takiab (Chopstick Hill.) A more modern day out can be had at the popular Black Mountain water park. The spa treatments here are famously good, as are the pristine, palm-fringed beaches.
You’ll find plenty of places to eat out on Hua Hin holidays. Local dishes include Tom Yam Soup, Pad Thai Noodles and Thai Green Curry. Fresh fish and seafood are plentiful and tasty, from the blue crab to tiger prawns. As well as all that local food, you’ll find dishes from as far and wide as Japan, India and the West.
While some hotels lay on local dancing shows and low-key entertainment, evenings in Hua Hin are about dining al fresco and chilling out. There are plenty of bars and shows in the resort, as well as the vibrant night market.
