Swim in azure seas and kick back on white beaches in the tropical paradise that is Phuket. Relaxation is the order of the day on Phuket holidays, but there’s plenty of discovery to be done too: see mystical temples, explore caves and lagoons, or zip-wire through the rainforest.
Thanks to remote hotels, luxury resorts and relaxing spa retreats, holidays to Phuket are a big hit with couples and in particular honeymooners. The perfect end to a day on the beach is Thai cuisine – best served up under the sunset.
If all the tranquillity gets too much, head to Patong Beach for vibrant nightlife. Or, for the perfect mix of seaside and city, spend some time in bustling Bangkok – only an hour’s flight away.
Phuket is surrounded by the Andaman Sea, where the coral reefs are among the world’s best. This means Phuket holidays are superb for diving and snorkelling, as well as white-water rafting, sailing and waterskiing. And on dry land, the golf courses are famously good.
Must-see sights in Phuket include the huge Big Buddha statue, the quaint galleries and cafes of Old Phuket Town and the unique limestone formations of James Bond Island.
The best months to take holidays to Phuket are between November and April.
You can do as little or as much as you like on holidays in Phuket. Switch off on a sun lounger, or get chilled to the hilt with a Thai massage. Head for the sea and try diving, snorkelling, white water rafting or water-skiing. Delve into the rainforests on an eco-tour, or explore mesmerising temples and monuments. For entertainment, Thai-style, take in a Thai boxing match, or see the wacky PhantaSea Show at Kamala Beach. Sail to the scenic islands of Nga Bay on a boat trip, or enjoy some retail therapy in Old Phuket Town.
Thai cuisine is unique and tasty. The world-famous Thai curry, full of tropical lemongrass and coconut flavours, is best tasted in its birthplace. The street stalls of Patong Beach cook your chosen meal in front of your eyes. A novel way to dine on the east coast is on board floating krachang restaurants, serving freshly-caught fish and seafood specialities.
Much of the evening entertainment in Phuket is low-key and hotel based. Enjoy a romantic meal under the stars or relax with a cocktail in a beachside bar. For heady night-time action, Patong Beach is the place to be.
