Experience the gripping 2019 Montreal Canadian Grand Prix with a stay in Montreal with Hays Travel!
Montreal is set on an island adjacent to the Saint Lawrence River and is named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill at its heart. One of the liveliest multi-cultural cities in the world; you'll find citizens speaking French as well as English, due to being located in Canada's Quebec province. Since the first Canadian Grand Prix was held in 1978, it has become an occasion to pencil into your calendar. Packed with anticipation and plenty of excitement; this world-class event never fails to attract visitors from all over the world to experience the thrilling race action, exciting all-day entertainment, and tasty food options.
Modified several times in the past, the circuit is a combination of slow and rapid corners with a very long straight which demands a lot from the engines. Its layout is popular with drivers because it is one of the very few Grand Prix tracks where overtaking is possible, and the annual stopover in Canada remains one of the most popular with the F1 circus. The circuit was also renamed in honour of the highly famous Canadian driver, Gilles Villeneuve, who died during practice and had won the first F1 race held on the Isle Notre Dame circuit in 1978.
Over the weekend in the town area of Rue Ste Catherine; you can expect street parties, driver appearances, and exciting F1 exhibitions. There is also plenty more to see and do in Montreal, as the city seamlessly mixes the old with the new. Discover the beautifully intricate Notre-Dame Basilica, a towering gothic revival church reminiscent of Parisian-style architecture. Montreal Botanical Garden is also a worthwhile visit and is a stunning oasis of thematic exhibits and the perfect photo opportunity.
