With vast landscapes, rich wildlife, and fascinating cultures, Tanzania makes for an unforgettable travel experience. This east African country is home to Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, as well as some of the world’s most wildlife-rich national parks.
The seemingly endless savannahs contrast heavily with the snow and glaciers of Kilimanjaro - this majestic mountain is a popular climb for thrill-seekers, while the most densely-populated area for African mammals on the continent lies within the steep walls of the Ngorongoro Crater.
The Serengeti National Park is a prime spot to catch a glimpse of the Big Five while Lake Manyara National Park comprises forests, woodlands and swamps and is home to diverse bird life. With no less than 800km of stunning coastline, Tanzania’s pearly-white beaches will take your breath away.
There are more than 120 different cultures and ethnic groups in Tanzania, making it a wonderfully vibrant and multicultural destination.
Visit Tanzania during the dry season from June to October. During this time, you'll have the best chance of seeing the wildebeest migrate in the Serengeti.
Although not easy, the adventurous can climb Mount Kilimanjaro. There are also organised tours of the mountain for varying climbing abilities. Spend time at Serengeti National Park, proclaimed one of the Seven Wonders of the World, where you'll be greeted by over six million animals. The open plains boast impressive landscapes. Enjoy a balloon safari over the Serengeti where you'll sip champagne as you gave down at the beautiful scenery. Visit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to the famous volcanic Ngorongoro Crater, and one of the most popular areas for wildlife viewing. Head to Lake Manyara National Park to see plentiful flamingos, and diverse species of birds. Or go to Tarangire National Park for wildebeest, zebra, buffalo and gazelle sightings.
The cuisine in Tanzania is varied and flavoursome. In the mainland, traditional dishes include meat stews and grilled chicken accompanied by green bananas and ugali. At the coast, expect to find a range of seafood options which are flavoured with spice and coconut milk. Fruit juices are particularly popular here due to the tropical fruit production.
Evenings in Tanzania tend to be relaxed and low-key. Relax with a refreshing drink and admire the African sunset. Alternatively, the famous monthly full moon parties at Kendwa Rocks showcase local DJs and artists.
