Your seven-night Wildlife of The Gambia and Senegal tour gets underway with your flight from the UK to The Gambia, where you'll then transfer to the award-winning Mandina Lodges at Makasutu Forest. Over the next few days, make the most of the enormous swimming pool and take time to discover the fascinating birdlife along the forest trails and waterways with your personal guide.
The following day, enjoy a leisurely country drive to admire the marvellous scenes of Gambian village life; before arriving at a chimpanzee camp nestled in the River Gambia National Park and embarking a boat to see the chimps’ habitat on Baboon Islands. The next few days include a fascinating bird watching walk and the chance to watch hippos wallowing in the river as you pass.
Your journey to Senegal comes afterwards, where you'll undertake a river crossing and then a comfortable drive down to Barra to cross the border. Here you'll settle into luxurious tented accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis, before you set out on a three-hour game drive around Wildlife Reserve to spot giraffes, zebras, rhinos, and buffalos.
On Day 8, you'll depart for your journey back to The Gambia via ferry, where you'll be able to experience a real taste of Africa. You'll then transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK. Dine al fresco and enjoy the company of fellow guests around the fire pit under the stars.
Enjoy a leisurely 4-5 hour drive up country along a tarmac road, absorbing the scenes of everyday Gambian village life. Arrive at the clifftop Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Project Camp, located in the River Gambia National Park (the final approach is along a sandy, unmade track) in time to embark on a two hour boat trip to view the chimps who reside on Baboon Islands. Dine in the riverside Waterhouse, listening to the sounds of nature.
Take an early guided birdwatching walk or spend the day relaxing in the Waterhouse before a second afternoon river trip. As well as learning about the work that the project undertakes with the chimps, you are likely to see hippos wallowing in the river.

Late afternoon will see you settling into the impressive lodge at Fathala, complete with luxurious tented accommodation, where you can dine overlooking the manmade watering hole.
Embark on a three hour game drive around Fathala Wildlife Reserve for a chance to spot giraffe, zebras, rhino and buffalo, then relax by the small swimming pool or join one of the lodge's optional excursions.
Depart for the 2½ hour journey back to The Gambia via the ferry from Barra which offers a real taste of Africa. You will then be transferred either to the airport or your chosen hotel for a few more days of relaxation.
